The IEEE Q&A Project
The IEEE / Sloan Career Education Project
This Q&A system is part of an effort by IEEE to
provide career education for students considering careers in
electro-technology areas. IEEE's effort involve three major
thrusts:
- Fact and Data Oriented Content (CD ROM & Web)
- Case Studies (CD ROM & Web)
- Q&A System (this Web)
Credits:
- This system is being developed as a project of the IEEE.
It is part of a larger project that is discussed below.
- Initial Proposal Lead: Lou Lovas
- Alpha/Beta Software Development: David Green
- Home page graphics for beta system: Wen Tian, Vestavia High School (UAB
summer volunteer)
- Alpha System Usage: Alabama Section Students especially UAB Student
Branch.
- Project Team: Lou Lovas (contact point), David Lee,
Charles Hickman, David Green, Gerald Karam.
- Pre-production Software Testing: David Kujawski
- Beta Software Testing: 1997 EE433 Class at UAB
- Beta Respondents: Paul Atchison, Gerald Karam, Cherie Kronimus,
Cecelia Jankowski, Loren Lacy, and Lou Lovas
- Alpha Respondents: Farrell Aultman, Lea Brothers, and Charles
Hickman
Goals of Beta Test
- Refinement of model (two follow-up question, summaries
available by topic, minor changes based on
respondent/student feedback)
- Automatic Survey Mode
- Gold Committee Involement
- Regional Student Representative Involvement
Goals of Alpha Test
- Proof of concept
- Examination of interaction model
Schedule:
- Development began in May
- June 19, 1997 Alpha System went on-line
- July 26, 1997 End of Alpha Test
- Beta Test Development
- September 22, 1997 Beta Test Deployment for Region 3
- Production System Development
- January 10, 1999 Production System Deployment
- January 15, 1999 On-line
